economic potential of women, we will see a new and better future. ” (Hon. Hillary Rodham Clinton)
The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) was established by the APEC Economic Leaders in November 1995. This private sector body presents recommendations to the APEC Leaders in an annual dialogue and advises APEC officials on business sector priorities and concerns. ABAC comprises up to three senior business people from each APEC economy where the appointments are made by the Leader of the member economy concerned. ABAC represents a diverse range of sectors which includes small and large enterprises.
Essentially, the APEC policy direction is provided by the 21 APEC Economic Leaders. Strategic recommendations provided by APEC Ministers and the APEC Business Advisory Council are considered by APEC Economic Leaders as part of this process. Thus, ABAC provides APEC Economic Leaders with a business perspective on APEC issues through an annual meeting and a formal report. The annual report contains recommendations to improve the business and investment environment in the APEC region.
