Ms Wei Xue is executive director of TCL Welfare Fund, chairwoman of Asia Women’s Development Association and president of TCL Cultural Communications Co., Ltd. Born in Beijing, she studied business management at Japan’s Sophia University from 1992 and after graduation, undertook public relations studies at Brigham Young University in the United States. She also served as a Co-Chair in the 2013 APEC Women Leadership Forum.
She founded PRAP China Public Relations Consultants, Inc. in 1997 and has been its president since. Her other positions include visiting fellow at Peking University’s Women’s Studies Centre, vice-president of WRSACC, vice-president of BCBA (Beijing Chinese Business-Association), committee member of BYF, committee member of Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, and board member of WildAid.
Wei Xue is deeply engaged in public interest work in China, having established the country’s first private non-profit foundation, the Huameng Fund, in 2007. She generously contributes to the Huameng Fund, which is dedicated to the development of China’s education system and has invested nearly 60 million yuan in China during the past 6 years. The fund offers financial aid to high school students from poor families and has also launched the “Candlelight Award” project to recognize under-resourced teachers with outstanding achievements in the rural areas of Huizhou and Guangdong, encouraging them to continue their good work. In January 2013, the Huameng Fund and the TCL Welfare Fund strengthened their cooperation with the China Youth Development Foundation, and the “Candlelight Award” was renamed “TCL Hope Project Candlelight Award”, which will become a nationwide program.
